A Landscape Rich in History
With a history stretching back over 400 years — and archaeology dating back millions — Langebaan is one of South Africa’s oldest towns. Just 12 km from Elandsfontein, a fossilised Stone Age skeleton was discovered, highlighting the area’s ancient past.
From Farm to Coastal Town
The town was formally established in 1870 on the farm Geitenmelksfontein, and it’s believed Langebaan got its name from the winding track behind the dunes that once led to the original homestead at Lynch Point.
